9 weeks! There really is a baby

Today was the day! We had our first ultra-sound with Dr. Keys at Evergreen. My wife and I were very excited to see the baby for the first time. Dr. Keys used a mobile ultra-sound machine which she brought into the exam room. The image was very clear, we could even see the heart beating which was really special. My wife is very happy and relieved, now that we saw the 2.25cm baby exactly 9weeks and 1day.

Medium Green Olive

In week seven of the baby's life, it is now the size of a medium green olive. The sex of the baby is still not visible but in the next few weeks we should be able to tell the sex. The weather around here has been crazy, but my wife is loving that she didn't have to go to work today due to the icy conditions.

The changes: Grapefruit, and no more rash...

Purple Cafe and 5th Avenue Theatre

My wife made a plan for Sunday night with her friend to take Me and Nate to Seattle for the evening. I had no idea what the plan was, but I did have a great time. We started out at the City Centre and toured the Gingerbread village, these were different scenes made completely of candy and gingerbread. After that we went to Old Navy for a few minutes to look around and then to dinner. For dinner we went to the "Purple Cafe and Wine Bar". The food was good and the view was nice. After dinner we went to the 5th Avenue Theatre for Irving Berlin's White Christmas. This was my first time to attend the theatre. My wife and I told our friends that we are having a baby and of course my friend Nate got it right away when I said "we have news"

The changes: Nothing had really happened, we have the ultra sound on Thursday, I also know that the baby's eyes are developing color as I type.

Baby Shoes

Today is Thanksgiving. Today my wife and I told her parents we are pregnant. We met them for dinner at Arnies in Edmonds. After we ordered our food we gave them a gift bag with little baby shoes. The shoes said everything. We had intended on waiting till mid December to tell them since we are going to Japan for Christmas, and will be telling my parents then. But decided that the time was right. We will see if the news doesn't get out.

The changes: My wife looks extremely good today.

Pinto Bean?

The baby is in it's sixth week now. The books my wife are reading say the little guy is the size of a pinto bean. That is pretty small, but not too small. The baby moves it's arms and legs at six weeks. The baby's heart begins beating between 18 and 24 days, and sturdily at 43. The first ultra sound is right around the corner it seems, as soon as Thanksgiving is over; just a few days after...

The changes: The doctor said that my wife could start showing as soon as next week. We'll see if anyone notices that she doesn't order wine for dinner tomorrow night with her parents...

What is my job here?

Apparently, part of my job during this pregnancy is to remind my wife to take her prenatal vitamins. She keeps them in a small travel size Tylenol bottle, in her purse. There are many things that are my responsibility; provide housing, food, and getting my wife to the hospital when its time for the baby to come. No, I have not driven the route to the hospital. I know you were just thinking that. Well, I have thought of it though. I would like for my parents to make it from over seas but that will depend on finances at the time.

The changes: She must drink milk in the morning before she goes to work, and before she goes to bed, to help with Nausea

Keeping it Real

I have decided to not go on my business trip; and instead, stick around for the first ultrasound. This is a big event for my wife and I, and I want to be there for the first visual of our baby. The appointment is November 30th, Thursday, one week after Thanksgiving. My wife was very happy that I would be able to make it. As of now, we tentatively have a time set to tell her family that she is pregnant, I believe December 16th. My wife has a cute idea for spilling the beans; we have already purchased baby shoes to wrap in a box, with a copy of the ultrasound rolled up in one of the shoes. We will use the same method with my parents also in December before Christmas. It will be quite exciting.

The changes: Some foods are becoming too salty for her to eat. Her stomach is becoming more and more firm.

5 Week Craze

The baby is in its fifth week of development. My wife read that during the fifth week the baby doubles in size. I know that some of you may be confused because in a earlier post I said week 7. Well, let me explain... The doctors dates conception back to the last time a woman had her period. So to be more accurate the doctors now separate the babies weeks and the mother's weeks. The mother is always two weeks ahead of the baby. So in the mothers 7th week the baby is actually 5 weeks. Something else that is weird is, at this point the due date is anywhere from 37 to 42 weeks. Could you please narrow it down a little, please!!!

The Changes: The pregnancy is definitely causing the rash. My wife has scheduled an appointment with a registered nurse practitioner for tomorrow to get this taken care of once and for all. Good riddance.

Slimming perhaps

My wife called me today very cheery and seemingly happy. Her boss had complimented her asking if she had lost weight? I guess wearing black still pays; although I may be biased, I think she looks great! Wearing black or not...

My wife tried to change her next doctor's appointment today so that I could be there, since I will be in San Diego at that time for a few days. Unfortunately, the doctor is booked and wouldn't be able to fit her in for a few weeks later if she were to re-schedule

The changes: Week 7 of this journey and she felt nauseous pretty much all day.

Morning sickness

Sickness comes and goes

These past couple of mornings she has been waking up and feeling nauseous, needing to eat a cracker, otherwise she will throw up. This has been tough on her, although she has been a champ through it all.

The changes: Today she had a severe migraine, which she believes is connected.

From Conception to Birth

From conception to birth

A book my wife simply had to have, among many others... This book has quality images of the process of growth, and good descriptions of what is happening on a cellular level. The website also gives some information, but not as detailed as the book. My wife is reading magazines, books, and any other form of media she can get her hands on regarding pregnancy. Today my wife asked her boss to cut her hours, the answer was NO. Maybe in a few months when she is showing, her boss will get the picture.

The changes: She has a rash, ( but we think its from changing body wash)

My family

I found out my wife is pregnant about one month ago. She had her first doctors visit on Monday the 6th. The doctor's visit was to confirm that she was actually pregnant. The next appointment is November 30th. The night she told me she is pregnant, we went to Evergreen hospital, in Kirkland to take the family care center tour.
The Changes: She seems more tired. Today she told me that the craving for sweets is diminishing. She is also having appetite changes.
